| On the west coast of Northland is known as Kauri Coast. Kauri is the native timber of NZ, once flourished in abundance in this area but was harvested almost to extinction. This is the Tane Mahuta - God of the Forest. The largest living kauri tree in New Zealand, believed to be about 2000 years old.
