KLGCC D40 Workshop - August 13, 2007

Nikon and Nikonian Academy held a successful D40/D40x workshop yesterday at KLGCC to a crowd of over 60 eager Nikon faithfuls (biggest group in a workshop so far!). Attendees were treated with our revised workshop materials and had the opportunity to try out their portraiture skills with not 2 but 4 models from Faces. Here are some photos taken using a D40 with a 50mm F1.8 on manual focus mode. All editing (if any) were done on Nikon Capture NX.

Shu - beforeShu
Notice how a little cropping and level adjustment can bring more depth to a photo. Shu made it all the way from JB just for this shoot.

Natalie
Natalie, one of our models for the shoot. Notice the difference in shooting with Portraiture (this shots) and More Vivid mode (following few shots)

These over-saturated photos were purposely taken to illustrated the point in using different colour optimiser in the D40/D40x to achieve different feel. I used More Vivid mode and the photos turned out as if they're taken with a slide film and cross processed.

Back in Portrait mode. See the difference in skin tone?

Getting too hot under the sun. This was taken with a 18-135mm lens using the D40.

WrongHow not to take a photo. Even we make mistakes sometimes. Notice how the chair in the background seem to be poking our otherwise good looking model?
